What does a “thought partner” do? And isn’t that like coaching or consulting?
Perhaps. But I prefer not to enter into a conversation with another person assuming I have all the answers. Because of my background, I have some, but I prefer for us to learn together. To devise options.
So I use the phrase “Thought Partner” to indicate a co-equal arrangement in which, together, we discover what it is you need and how I might be able to help.
For select non-fiction clients, I often assist in the following ways:
- Develop book proposals
- Edit raw translations into English
- Discuss ideas relative to transitions and organization
- Suggest appropriate publishers
- Help to focus their writing
- Do overview editing, developmental editing, but not copyediting
- Sort through the many ways there are to publish books today
- Provide friendly support; writing can be very lonely.
Because we're thinking together, we may devise other creative ways to work together.
Who knows? We'd be thought partners. And, as we suspect, thought creates reality.
